For over 8 years, Mekia V. has been excited to go to work every day. It’s no coincidence that those 8 years have been spent at Wenco.
Mekia started as a cashier at the Wendy’s in Streetsboro for what was supposed to be a part-time job. It didn’t take long before a district manager took notice of her work ethic and began to share more with her about the company. Excited about Wenco’s vision and values, Mekia decided to “go for it” and begin the management training process.
Mekia’s first management position was that of restaurant manager at the Aurora location. After four years, she was promoted to general manager, then after another two years, moved to the Twinsburg location, where she is thrilled to be the general manager.
One of the biggest challenges in food service, Mekia notes, is “being friendly in a short amount of time.” How do you serve a number of guests in an efficient and timely manner while still showing them that you care?
“Every guest is special and should be treated as number one,” Mekia explains. “I want them to leave happy and satisfied, with a smile on their face. To know that I can do that without them feeling rushed is an amazing feeling!”
When comparing Wenco to past places of employment, Mekia emphasizes a strong support system. “I’ve always felt supported by my district managers. There’s an open door policy where if I have any questions, I can ask.” As for new employees, “you’re not just thrown to the wolves. Everything is taught, with videos and other training tools you can go back to.”
At Wendy’s, Mekia has found her home. “I did not expect to like it this much, but I love it! I come to work every day not just for a check but because I love it. It’s the best feeling.”
Mekia’s story illustrates Wenco’s commitment to developing employees and positioning them for success. See what might be in store for you—fill out the Quick Apply form to let us know your interests!
