Wendy's Breakfast: My Family's Review

May 13, 2020

With the pandemic lockdown keeping our family around the house, it’s been awhile since we’ve gone out to eat. When I noticed my son eating dry instant oatmeal straight from the package, I figured it was about time we treat ourselves.

Breakfast is my favorite quick-service meal, so when Wendy’s––the restaurant closest to our neighborhood––added a breakfast menu, I was intrigued, to say the least. Although dining rooms are closed at the time of this writing, Wendy’s offers a number of options, including drive-thru, delivery, and mobile ordering through their app. With a family of five, and a couple of those being late-rising teenagers, I thought it would be most convenient to order ahead from the app. I was not disappointed.

With the exception of my middle kid, Becca, our family generally does not eat meat. The Wendy’s breakfast menu offers a number of options which can be easily customized, the app making the process a snap! Choose a sandwich, press a button to remove the meat (or egg or cheese––or add stuff, too!) and voila––you’ve got yourself a meatless treat.

Our kids were so excited to grab Wendy’s, they browsed the menu online and submitted their requests to me the night before. Setting up the order on the app, including choosing, customizing, and paying for the food, was quick and easy. Within a few minutes, I was off to pick up the following:

  • Egg & Swiss Croissant
  • Egg & Cheese Biscuits
  • Honey Butter Biscuits
  • Classic Egg & Cheese Sandwich
  • Seasoned Potatoes
  • Breakfast Baconator
  • Vanilla Frosty-ccino

My car smelled heavenly on the way home. I thought about just driving past our subdivision, blasting the radio, and eating it all myself on a leisurely Tuesday-morning drive, but that would have made the review a lot less interesting. My family loved their breakfast, but I’ll let their words speak for themselves:

Lydia, 17: “The potatoes are so crispy and tasty. I added them to my biscuit sandwich! The honey biscuit (an additional biscuit she ordered on the side) has the perfect touch of sweetness, and I drank the Frosty-ccino in one breath.”

Becca, 15: “The Baconator was good! It was so filling, I couldn’t even finish it!” (She woke up to eat it, fell back asleep, and plans on finishing the rest when she wakes up for the day, which will probably be, like, 4PM.)

Samuel, 11 (who got the Classic Sandwich, which uses a roll rather than a biscuit or croissant): “It has the perfect balance of cheese and egg.”

Jeremy, 40-something (my husband): “It tastes like a croissant without having the shape of one. I was expecting the typical skinny bread, but instead, it’s a square, so the egg doesn’t fall out. This is much better.”

And what did I think of it? My egg and cheese biscuit far surpassed similar items from other quick-serve restaurants. Rather than pouring premixed eggs from containers, Wendy’s cracks them fresh and cooks them directly on the grill. The taste is outstanding! The seasoned potatoes are also a big hit in my book, with much more flavor and spunk than your typical prefab hash browns.

Overall, our family was delighted with the meal. Ordering was quick and convenient, pickup was easy, and the food itself, a step above the rest. This will be our first of many Wendy’s breakfasts.
